Devyani Rana, daughter of late BJP leader, Devender Singh Rana, has won the Nagrota assembly, according to the latest election results released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday.
Rana secured 42,183 votes, defeating her closest rival, Harsh Dev Singh of the Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party, who secured 17,661 votes.
Shamim Begum of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference trailed behind with 10,834 votes, while independent candidate Anil Sharma received only 837 votes.
The victory is significant for Devyani since the seat fell vacant after the death of the senior BJP leader, and the party’s decision to field his daughter while sidelining more prominent figures was seen as a high-stakes test.
Rana won with a margin of 24,522 votes over Singh.

The Election Commission’s official results confirmed the outcome as counting concluded for all 11 rounds in the constituency.
Meanwhile, in Budgam, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Aga Muntazir, has extended his lead by more than 2000 votes against his nearest rival, clan member Aga Syed Mehmood, after the completion of the 6th round.
PDP workers are celebrating, as the win in Budgam would be a landslide and historic victory if Aga Muntazir manages to hold on to the lead.
