In the wake of heightened security concerns following India's military action under ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Amritsar district administration resumed blackout drills in the early hours of Thursday, urging residents to remain indoors and avoid panic.
The drill commenced around 1:30 am, marking the second such exercise in the city within hours. A previous drill was conducted from 10:30 pm to 11:00 pm on Wednesday night.
“Taking utmost caution, the Amritsar district administration has again initiated a blackout drill,” read a public advisory issued by the Amritsar District Public Relations Officer.
“Please stay at home, do not panic, do not gather outside your homes and keep the outside lights of your houses switched off,” it stated.
The civil defence exercise is part of a nationwide preparedness protocol, coming shortly after Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
The authorities have reiterated that the drills are precautionary and urged the public to cooperate fully while maintaining calm.
