Blaming IAS, IPS officers shows inability to work: HP minister

The minister further added that it was not appropriate to hold officers responsible for delays or failures in implementation. “If someone is unable to execute the work, it is not right to blame officers. I have never faced such a problem,” he said.

Himachal Pradesh Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh on Wednesday termed the comments made by Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh against IAS and IPS officers in Himachal Pradesh as “unfortunate” and said blaming officials for administrative lapses shows an inability to carry out work.

Replying to questions by reporters in Shimla, he said that if any minister has made such remarks, it is unfortunate, regardless of which state the minister belongs to.

While defending the state’s bureaucracy, Anirudh Singh said officers from the state are serving in several other states as well and are performing their duties efficiently.

“Officers from Himachal Pradesh are working in other states, and they are doing their work well,” he said.

The minister further added that it was not appropriate to hold officers responsible for delays or failures in implementation. “If someone is unable to execute the work, it is not right to blame officers. I have never faced such a problem,” he said.

He also added that such statements amount to shifting responsibility. “You are trying to hide your inability and are blaming officials of a particular state. This is unfortunate,” the minister added.

The remarks came a day after PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh made critical remarks about IAS and IPS officers in connection with state projects, which he shared on social media.

The statements prompted a response from the government, with Anirudh Singh becoming the first senior minister to publicly defend the role of the bureaucracy.
