The bodies of a woman and her three children were found floating in a pond in Karnataka’s Dammuru village of Ballari district on Wednesday. While the police suspect it to be a suicide case, investigations are on to determine the exact cause of death.
The deceased woman has been identified as Siddavva, a resident of Hosur Champa village in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. According to police sources, Siddavva belonged to a family engaged in cattle herding and had been living in the area with her husband and children.
The family was reported missing on Tuesday after villagers noticed their cattle unattended. Next day, locals found the bodies floating in a nearby pond and immediately alerted the authorities.
Siddavva had been married for nearly 10 years to Sanjay (32), a resident of Hosur village in Belagavi district. The police have taken Sanjay into custody for questioning. This incident is a continuation of a troubling pattern of suspected family suicides in Karnataka in recent months.
On January 26, four members of a family were found dead in their residence in RMV 2nd Stage, Bengaluru. The police reported that the couple allegedly poisoned their two children before killing themselves. The family had recently moved to the city from Uttar Pradesh.
In another case on February 17, a family of four was found dead in their apartment in Mysuru’s Visvesvaraya Nagar. The victims included a man, his wife, their teenage son and the man’s elderly mother. It is suspected that the man poisoned his family before taking his own life.
