In a shocking incident that has triggered outrage in South Dinajpur district, the body of an 11-year-old girl was recovered from a pond in the Kumarganj police station area on Monday evening, three days after she went missing. The minor was found without clothes, raising serious suspicions about sexual assault and foul play.
According to police and family sources, the child went missing around 5:30 pm on Friday. A missing persons complaint was filed by the family at Kumarganj police station on Saturday after she did not return home. Despite efforts, she remained untraced for two days.
On Monday, local residents spotted a body floating in a pond located approximately three kilometers from the girl’s residence. The police were immediately informed and the family rushed to the spot after receiving the news. The family identified the body and recognized her clothes found nearby.
Kumarganj police arrived at the scene and recovered the body, which was then sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Officials stated that more details would emerge once the post-mortem report is available.

An officer from Kumarganj police station said, “A body was found floating in the pond. Based on identification by the family and the previous missing complaint, we believe it to be the same girl. Further investigation is underway.”
However, the family of the deceased has alleged that the child was raped and murdered. The victim’s father said, “My daughter had been missing since Friday evening. Today, when we saw the body, we identified her by the clothes. She was found without any clothes on. My daughter was raped and killed. Otherwise, why would she be found in a pond?”
The incident has sparked outrage and fear in the area, with locals demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the minor. Police have assured that all angles are being investigated and necessary action will be taken based on the autopsy findings.
