The body of another elite Para (Special Forces) commando has been recovered from the upper reaches of the Kokernag forest in South Kashmir, three days after two soldiers reportedly went missing during an anti-militancy operation amid a severe snowstorm.

Officials said the soldier’s body was located during an ongoing search and rescue operation launched shortly after communication was lost with the duo because of adverse weather conditions.

Earlier on Thursday, the body of the first missing soldier was recovered from the same area. Both soldiers were part of a special operations team conducting a search mission in the snowbound heights of Kokernag.

The recovery of the second body has brought an end to the exhaustive search that continued despite the rough terrain and sub-zero temperatures.
The area, according to army officials, is not unknown to the security forces, though navigating through steep climbs, narrow patches, and dense forest covers posed an immense challenge to the search teams.

The Army on Friday said that the mortal remains of the soldiers will be sent for formal identification and subsequent completion of the military honours.
