The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) was the target of another threat via email on Tuesday, this time claiming a bomb had been placed on a flight scheduled to depart for the United States. Reports indicate that the message warned the explosive would be detonated unless a ransom of one million dollars was paid. This demand immediately prompted a high-alert response from airport authorities.
Security teams, which consist of CISF and airport personnel, conducted searches across the terminals. Cargo facilities, parking lots, and every aircraft which are designated for international travel.
As a precaution, all passengers were subjected to extra security screening measures.
Early investigative efforts suggest the email was allegedly sent by someone identifying himself as "Jasper" from the United States.
Cybercrime units are tracing the origin of the email origin and verifying its authenticity to determine if this is a genuine threat or merely one of several hoax messages aimed at airports.
While authorities have confirmed that no suspicious objects have been located to date, they stressed that security remains elevated across all sensitive zones of the airport.
An official statement from the airport management is expected shortly. RGIA police are currently investigating the case.
