Panic gripped XLRI – Xavier Institute of Management in Jamshedpur on Tuesday after the premier management institute received a threatening email warning of a possible bomb attack on its campus.
The institute administration promptly alerted the Police after the message was received, prompting security agencies to respond swiftly. Soon after the alert, Police personnel reached the campus and began assessing the situation while tightening security measures in and around the area.
Officials said the email was sent by an unknown individual who claimed that the institute would be targeted in a bomb blast. The message reportedly also referred to the possibility of an attack originating from a Pakistani airbase, which heightened concerns among authorities.
City SP Kumar Shivashish said the police had immediately initiated an investigation after receiving information about the threatening mail.
“Initial assessment suggests the email could be a mischievous or prank message, but all angles are being thoroughly examined,” he said.
Authorities added that the email is currently undergoing technical scrutiny in an effort to trace its source. Investigators are analysing digital details such as the IP address and the location from where the message was sent.
Police are also exploring whether the threat is connected to a string of similar bomb scare emails reported at several institutions across Jharkhand in recent days.
During the past week, courts and other establishments in Ranchi, Dhanbad, and Bokaro received threatening emails, leading to security checks and investigations by local police and cyber units. While many of those alerts were later found to be hoaxes, officials said every threat is being taken seriously because of the potential security risks involved.
