Barely a week after bomb threat hoax at Ranchi Civil court, the Ranchi District Collectorate on Thursday received a bomb threat via email, triggering panic on the administrative complex and prompting an extensive security operation.
Police immediately launched a thorough search of the premises as a precautionary measure. Following the email, security forces, including Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and a sniffer dog unit, were deployed to inspect the entire building.
The threat reportedly warned that the Collectorate would be targeted with a sulphur nitrate bomb.
Senior police officials confirmed that the matter is under investigation and police have been put on high alert after the email was received. Authorities are also working to trace the origin of the threat message.
The Collectorate houses several key government offices, including those of the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

Offices of other senior police officials, such as the City Superintendent of Police and Rural Superintendent of Police, are also located within the complex. The threat has therefore caused considerable concern among officials and staff.
So far, the bomb disposal team has not recovered any explosive material from the premises. However, officials stated that a detailed inspection of the entire complex is being conducted on the instructions of Ranchi Police to ensure complete safety.
This is the second such incident in recent days. On February 6, a similar bomb threat was issued to the Ranchi Civil Court via email. The Jharkhand Jaguar bomb squad carried out a two-day search operation at the court campus but did not find any explosives.
With the latest threat targeting the Collectorate, police investigations are ongoing, and security has been tightened across key government establishments in the city.
