Schools in Chandigarh and Mohali have received fresh bomb threat emails claiming that bomb blasts would be carried out at several locations on July 17.

According to officials, the email also threatened the life of Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu.

In the email sent to various schools in Mohali and Chandigarh, the email threatened to plant bombs in schools and the Mohali Mayor's office and to carry out IED blasts at the Jalandhar and Chandigarh railway stations.

The sender claimed that schools would be targeted at 1:11 pm and the Mohali Mayor's office at 3:11 pm on July 17.

In is pertinent to mention that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana on the same day to announce various development projects.

The email further warned residents of Punjab against attending Modi's rally and claimed support for actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh.

Many schools and public offices in Punjab have received bomb threat emails in recent months, keeping security agencies on high alert. While almost all such threats have turned out to be hoaxes, security agencies cannot afford to lower their guard by ignoring these emails.

Some in Punjab have described the email senders as fringe elements, while others believe the emails are organised and intentionally sent to schools and public offices to distract security agencies, allowing criminals and gangsters to continue their activities elsewhere.
