A devotee lost his life and five others were injured after boulders crashed onto a private bus travelling on the Chamba-Bharmour National Highway (NH-154A) near Ghera on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sahil Thakur, a resident of Gared village in Chamba district.
Those injured include Guddu Devi, Binta, Gilma Devi and the bus driver, Kulwinder Singh, all from Gared village. They were admitted to Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba for treatment.
Police said the group had visited the historic Chaurasi Temple complex in Bharmour on Saturday. They were on their way back home the following morning when tragedy struck.
The accident occurred near Batti Ki Hatti. As rain lashed the area, large boulders suddenly came crashing down the hillside and struck the rear of the moving bus. The force of the impact shattered the back window, sending rocks into the bus and injuring six passengers.
The injured were rushed to hospital without delay. However, Sahil Thakur succumbed to his injuries while being taken for treatment. After receiving information about the incident, a police team reached the spot, examined the scene and recorded the statements of eyewitnesses.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Saklani said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
