A 15-year-old boy has been detained for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in a village under the Ujiarpur Police Station area of Samastipur district, police said. The incident reportedly took place in broad daylight on Saturday while the child was playing outside her home.

According to local sources, the girl was playing on the street near her house when the teenage boy, a resident of the same village, allegedly lured her toward roadside bushes and assaulted her. The child’s cries reportedly drew the attention of nearby villagers, who informed her family.

When the family and local residents reached the spot, they found the girl injured. She was immediately taken to the district’s Sadar Hospital for medical treatment. Police said doctors are currently treating the child, whose condition has been described as serious.

The victim lives with her mother and grandparents in the village, while her father works as a labourer outside the area. The incident triggered anger among residents, with villagers demanding strict action against the accused.

Police said a team led by local police station in-charge Ajit Kumar launched a search operation soon after receiving information about the incident. The juvenile suspect was apprehended within hours while allegedly hiding in nearby bushes.

“A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). We are examining the minor accused, who was hiding during the raid,” Kumar said.

Police said because the accused is a minor, proceedings will follow the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. Police said investigators are examining all aspects of the case, including whether the act was premeditated.

Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken and that the victim’s family will receive all assistance.
