A section of the under-construction Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge over the Ganga in Bihar collapsed on Saturday morning, officials reported.
The incident occurred around 8 am, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Khagaria's District Magistrate Amit Kumar Pandey informed that the slab collapse was part of a structure already marked for dismantling.
"The entire faulty structure is being dismantled by the contractor as per the Patna High Court's direction. Construction had been halted prior to this incident," Pandey stated.
This is not the first collapse associated with the bridge—last year, multiple pillars gave way, sending an entire section plunging into the river.
The incident adds to a growing list of bridge failures in Bihar in recent months, prompting serious questions about the quality of construction and oversight in the state.
