In a crucial effort to re-establish connectivity in the Ladakh region, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has initiated snow clearance operations on National Highway-3 under Project HIMANK.
The strategic initiative aims to reopen the highway, which serves as a critical lifeline for both civilian movement and defence operations.
With heavy snowfall accumulating over the winter months, the Leh-Manali highway remains cut off for extended periods, necessitating extensive clearance efforts ahead of the summer season.
The Snow Clearance Teams of 111 RCC/753 BRTF have been deployed to carry out this challenging task in sub-zero temperatures, using specialized machinery to clear snow drifts ranging between 10 to 15 feet at multiple locations.
The operation is particularly arduous near the Tanglang La Pass, situated at an altitude of 17,500 feet, where extreme snowfall and frequent avalanches pose significant challenges.
Despite these harsh conditions, BRO teams are working relentlessly to ensure that the road is cleared efficiently and safely, facilitating the resumption of crucial transport and logistics activities in the region.
National Highway-3 remains vital for the armed forces stationed in Ladakh and is essential for the movement of supplies and reinforcements. The successful completion of the snow clearance operation will pave the way for smoother transit and connectivity, reinforcing Ladakh’s logistical and strategic preparedness.
