BSF constable shot dead at his home in Uttar Pradesh’s Dhanpur village; police detain three suspects and probe a personal dispute behind the killing.

A constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) was shot dead by an unidentified assailant at his residence in Dhanpur village under the jurisdiction of Inchauli Police Station on Saturday night, police said.

The victim, identified as Nain Singh (38), was reportedly asleep when the attacker entered his house and opened fire, killing him on the spot. Singh was posted in West Bengal and had returned to his native village on March 6 while on leave. He was scheduled to rejoin duty on April 2.

At the time of the incident, Singh’s wife, Komal, was at her parental home along with their children, while his father was working in the fields.

According to police sources, Singh had a long-standing dispute with a local youth, Mahesh, which reportedly escalated into an altercation earlier on Saturday. Following the argument, Singh returned home and went to sleep. Investigators believe the assailant took advantage of the situation, entered the house, and carried out the attack.

By the time family members and villagers reached the spot, Singh had already succumbed to his injuries.

Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey reached the scene along with a police team soon after receiving information. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene.

“Three suspects have been detained and are being interrogated. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and the main accused will be arrested soon,” Pandey said.

The incident has triggered tension and outrage in the village, prompting authorities to deploy additional police personnel as a precautionary measure. Further investigation into the case is underway.
