The BSF Tripura Frontier has implemented a smart border surveillance system, installing 503 surveillance cameras along the border areas to curb trans-border smuggling and other criminal activities, informed IG BSF Tripura Frontier, Patel Pijush Purusottam Das.
Addressing the media at the BSF Tripura Frontier Headquarters, the senior BSF official explained the active efforts taken by the force to enhance vigilance along the border fronts.
Das highlighted the sealing of small natural gaps in the borders and ongoing Single Row Fencing work in eight patches spanning the 856-kilometre-long borders in Tripura. Notably, six fencing gaps have already been sealed off.
Briefing media persons at the BSF Tripura Frontier Headquarters, Das said, “The border guarding forces are working actively to enhance vigil in the border fronts which is why small natural gaps in the borders are being plugged off. Single Row Fencing work is also underway in eight patches along the 856-kilometer-long borders here in Tripura. Six fencing gaps are already sealed off.”
When asked about the infiltration attempts and the challenges, the BSF official said that the influx of infiltrators had been identified as the biggest concern for the BSF troopers now guarding the borders here in the state.
Earlier, in 2022 Chief of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) Pankaj Kumar Singh said they would install 5,500 security cameras along the borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh for which the central government had allocated a fund of Rs 30 crores.
India and Bangladesh share 4,096 km land border, of which 1,880 km is shared with the northeastern states of Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram. Tripura on the other hand, is bordered on 3 sides by Bangladesh.
