While reported cases of self-harm and suicide among security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have decreased over the past five years despite the highly stressful environment, occasional incidents continue to occur.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has identified job pressure and family issues as the primary triggers for such cases. According to three-year data presented in Parliament (concluding in 2025), the highest number of suicides among paramilitary forces was recorded in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with 159 cases, followed by the BSF with 120.
Nationally, suicide cases across Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Assam Rifles, and National Security Guard (NSG) declined from 157 in 2023 to 133 in 2025.
