A Border Security Force (BSF) constable deployed in Srinagar went missing, prompting a massive search operation by the security forces in the area.
As per sources, Constable (General Duty) Sugam Choudhary, 24, serving with ‘C’ Company of the 60th Battalion BSF, was found absent without leave from the Battalion headquarters at Pantha-Chowk around 5 pm on July 31.
Despite relentless searches, he was not found in and around the suspected locations.
The security forces assigned BSF teams in the vicinity, including around Pantha-Chowk Bus Stand, taxi stand, and Srinagar Railway Station; no trace of the missing jawan has yet been found.
Officials said a missing person report was filed at the Pantha-Chowk police station as part of formal procedures. Choudhary, a resident of the Sikhera village in Kotwali Dehat, Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh, is the son of the late Devendra Kumar.
The description given by the BSF to the police and searching authorities suggests that the missing man did not display any signs of distress or unusual behaviour before his disappearance, triggering concerns over the missing jawan.
Officials have confirmed that all standard protocols are being followed, and his family has been informed of the situation. The authorities have not ruled out any possibilities, and both an internal inquiry and a police investigation are underway to trace the missing personnel.
