The Border Security Force (BSF) organised a marathon on Sunday to connect with local people and encourage fitness among both young and elderly participants, an official said.
The event, called 'Bordermen Marathon 2025,' was flagged off by BSF Director General (DG) Daljit Singh Chawdhary from three different locations in and around Amritsar, Punjab. The marathon's theme was 'Hand in Hand with Border Population.'
Race categories and participants
The marathon had three categories:
- Full Marathon: 42.19 km
- Half Marathon: 21.09 km
- 10 km Run
A large number of professional and amateur runners participated, including personnel from central police forces, the Indian Army, Punjab Police, as well as civilians and international athletes.
Speaking to reporters, DG Daljit Singh Chawdhary said that the BSF organizes this marathon every year to encourage people, especially the youth, to focus on fitness and stay away from drugs.
After the race, the winners were awarded medals and certificates at the Joint Check Post (JCP) in Attari, near the India-Pakistan border.
The BSF is responsible for protecting the India-Pakistan international border and oversees 553 km of the border in Punjab. Along with security duties, the force also organizes events like this marathon to engage with the local community.
