Abandoned Bangladeshi boats seized by the BSF in a bid to curb cross-border smuggling activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

In a swift operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended 19 wooden boats belonging to Bangladeshi nationals on the Jadukata River near Ghumaghat in Meghalaya while they were attempting to illegally cross into Indian territory for the collection of stone boulders and sand.

The incident, reported on Monday highlights the ongoing issue of cross-border smuggling in the region.

The BSF highlighted the significance of their action in a statement released on Tuesday, asserting that it was instrumental in thwarting illegal activities and safeguarding the security of the border area.

“These kinds of special operations reflect the mission mode adopted by the BSF troops along the border,” the statement read.

Despite regular patrols and vigilance, the infiltration of Bangladeshi miscreants into Indian territory has become increasingly common, particularly in riverine areas where they seek to pilfer stone and sand.

Following the seizure of the boats, they were taken into custody and subsequently handed over to the Customs office in Dangar.

In response to the ongoing illegal activities, the BSF lodged a formal protest with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The protest aims to address the persistent trespassing by Bangladeshi nationals into Indian territory.

To further enhance border security, a battalion commandant-level meeting was held on July 29 between the BSF and BGB, focusing on improving border domination and coordination.

The two forces are working together to ensure peace and tranquility along the Indo-Bangladesh border, particularly in vulnerable areas.
