BSP National Coordinator Akash Anand has postponed all his scheduled rallies in Uttar Pradesh without providing any explanation. This decision follows the registration of an FIR against him in a hate speech case in Sitapur on April 29.
The FIR was filed against Akash and 36 other party members for allegedly violating the model code of conduct during a public meeting in Sitapur, where Akash addressed supporters on behalf of party candidate Mahendra Yadav.
Akash had commenced the BSP's campaign from Nagina Lok Sabha seat on April 6, subsequently holding rallies in various districts across west and east Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, and Kaushambi.
Initially scheduled to address public meetings in Lucknow and Kanpur on May 1, both events were postponed. While the BSP did not provide an official explanation for the sudden change in plans, a party leader familiar with the situation indicated that the postponements were linked to the registration of the FIR.
The FIR against Akash and others was filed under IPC Section 502 (2) for promoting hatred and Section 125 of the Representation of People's Act. The BSP leader's future campaign engagements remain uncertain in light of these developments.
