Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) chief Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Monday called the protest call given by the MP and National Conference Senior Leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi over reservation policy "political gimmickry.”

Altaf Bukhari, in a post on X, wrote, “It shows a complete disregard for people’s common sense when an MP, instead of directly talking to his party president to advocate for public demands, opts to write an open letter to him and stage protests against his own party leadership.”

He said the days for such political gimmickry are long over. People are intelligent enough to differentiate between genuine efforts and theatrical actions.

Bukhari, while indirectly calling the move by the MP from the ruling dispensation an attempt to misguide people, said, These actions are only underestimating the intelligence of the people, which far exceeds your own, which is both unwise and disrespectful.” He added.

Meanwhile, Aga Mehdi Ruhullah on Sunday announced the beginning of what he said was a dignified protest in front of the CM’s official’s residence against the recently implemented reservation policy by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

This, according to Ruhullah, was irrational as it undermined the rights of those belonging to open merit.

Subsequently, he also urged the Omar Abdullah-led government to review and rationalise the reservation policy by taking immediate measures to implement rationality in the ongoing reservation policy in J&K.
