Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of Punjab’s Ferozepur district who sustained serious injuries in a recent Pakistani drone incident, succumbed to her injuries late Monday night at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Ludhiana. She had suffered 100 per cent burn injuries.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of May 11 in Khai Pheme Ki village, situated approximately 12 km from the Ferozepur district headquarters. The family was reportedly having dinner in the open verandah of their home when a Pakistani drone, intercepted by Indian air defence systems, crashed on their property. The debris caused a fire, engulfing a car parked outside the house and causing extensive burn injuries.
Sukhwinder Kaur’s husband, Lakhwinder Singh, sustained 70 per cent burns and is currently undergoing treatment at the DMCH. Their son, Jaswant Singh, was also injured and remains admitted at a hospital in Ferozepur. His condition has been reported as stable.
A family member confirmed Sukhwinder Kaur’s passing and said arrangements were underway to bring her body back to Ferozepur. “Police personnel will go to the DMCH in Ludhiana to bring back the body to Ferozepur,” the relative said, adding that both Lakhwinder and Jaswant are recovering.
Authorities have attributed the fire and subsequent injuries to the drone debris, which landed on the family's property after being intercepted by defence systems amid heightened cross-border tensions.
