Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited AIIMS on Friday to meet the victims of the Bilaspur bus accident and check on their condition. He assured them of full support from the state government and directed the hospital staff to provide the best medical care without any delay.
The accident, involving a private bus carrying devotees returning from a satsang in Punjab, occurred near Namhol in Bilaspur district around 3 am today. A total of 32 passengers, mostly from Solan’s Darlaghat area, were injured when the bus lost control and fell into a 20–25-foot-deep ditch. The bus driver also received injuries in the incident. The bus was reportedly heading to Darlaghat from Noormahal (Punjab).
As soon as the accident was reported, the police rushed to the accident site. With the help of local residents, all passengers were safely taken out of the bus and the injured were immediately taken to AIIMS Bilaspur for treatment, while the driver was admitted to the Civil Hospital at Markand.
Thanks to the prompt response from locals and the authorities, a major tragedy was averted. The cause of the accident has not been ascertained.
School van falls off road in Solan, 2 hurt
In a separate incident, a school van veered off the road near Nauni University on the Solan-Rajgarh road on Thursday evening. The van, which had no children onboard, fell nearly 70 meters down the slope while returning to Solan after collecting school supplies. Two people inside the vehicle suffered serious injuries and were rescued with help from local residents. The van was later pulled out with a crane.
