The bus fares in Odisha have been hiked following an increase in diesel prices. The announcement was made on Tuesday.
In a notification issued by the Transport Commissioner, the fare for ordinary passenger buses will now be 92 paise per km, up from the earlier rate of 90 paise. Similarly, the fare for express buses has been raised to 96 paise from 94 paise per km.
The fare for deluxe buses has been revised from Rs 1.31 to Rs 1.35 per km. To travel in the AC deluxe category, commuters will now have to pay a fare of Rs 1.63 per km instead of Rs 1.59.
In the super deluxe category, the fare has been hiked by six paise per km, taking the revised rate to Rs 2.53 per km.
Noting that the fare hike was necessary, the notification said the prices of both petrol and diesel increased by Rs 4.81 per litre.
The diesel price was Rs 95.87 per litre on May 15 and was increased to Rs 100.68 per litre on May 31 in Odisha.
As per the notification, the prices were hiked for stage carriages other than town buses plying within Odisha and revised fares will be applicable with immediate effect.
