Two youths lost their lives and two others were hurt after the car they were travelling in slipped into a khud near the world-famous Bir Billing paragliding site in Kangra district.
The accident took place late on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, officials said. Initial findings suggest that the driver lost control of the car near the paragliding take-off point, which caused the vehicle to fall into a deep khud.
Two of the occupants died on the spot, while the other two suffered serious injuries.
Locals informed the police after they saw the accident. A rescue team reached the site, pulled the injured out of the gorge, and shifted them to a nearby hospital.
Police have started a probe to find out the exact cause of the accident. Early indications point to overspeeding or low visibility at night as possible reasons for the mishap.
