An 11-year-old boy was allegedly thrown into a burning 'tandoor' (clay oven) after he ate rasgullas at a wedding ceremony in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district, police said on Friday.
According to officials, the child sustained severe burn injuries and was later referred to Lucknow Medical College for advanced treatment. His condition is currently reported to be stable.
The incident took place on the night of April 15 in Malauli Gosai village, which falls under the Chhawani police station limits in Basti district. Police sources identified the victim as Chaman alias Amar, a resident of Durjanpur village in Gonda district. He had been staying with his maternal grandparents in Baghanala village and had accompanied his grandmother to attend a relative’s wedding.
It is alleged that the catering contractor became angry after noticing the boy repeatedly taking rasgullas from the food counter. The accused allegedly scolded and threatened the child before lifting him and placing him onto the burning tandoor.

During the altercation, the boy reportedly lost his balance and fell into the oven. His screams alerted family members, who rushed to the spot and pulled him out, but not before he had suffered serious burns from his face down to his waist.
The injured child was initially taken to Ayodhya Medical College for treatment before being shifted to Lucknow due to the severity of his injuries. Following a written complaint lodged by the boy’s maternal uncle, Devideen Nishad, the police on Thursday registered a case against unidentified individuals under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused remains absconding, and police teams have launched search operations to trace and arrest those involved. Circle Officer of Harraiya, Swanima Singh, confirmed the incident and said further investigation is underway.
