The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has exposed a wide “fixer network” allegedly run by Kirshanu Sharda, the middleman of arrested and suspended Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar. The agency has found strong links between Sharda and several senior IAS and IPS officers, as well as political aides.
The revelations have sent shockwaves through Punjab’s power circles. Both Bhullar and Sharda were held in Chandigarh on October 16 in a Rs 5-lakh bribery trap case.
As per the latest progress report filed by the CBI before the Special CBI Court in Chandigarh, investigators have recovered crucial digital evidence from Sharda’s seized mobile phones and electronic devices. The data shows his deep involvement in corrupt dealings with multiple senior officials and his role as a middleman in several illegal activities.
The CBI report says Sharda played a key role in influencing investigations, arranging transfers and postings, helping issue arms licences, and manipulating the registration and cancellation of FIRs.
While extending Sharda’s police custody for four more days after a previous nine-day remand, the court stated that the CBI had “laid hand on material evidence.” The probe has revealed that Sharda acquired large amounts of gold jewellery, heavy cash deposits, and several assets in his and his wife Honey Sharma’s names in the last two years, pointing to proceeds of corruption.
Special CBI Judge Bhawna Jain observed that Sharda’s further interrogation was necessary to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and identify others involved in the case.
