The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a dedicated email platform, sandeshkhali@cbi.gov.in, for residents of Sandeshkhali in West Bengal to report crimes against women and incidents of land grabbing.
Following a directive from the division bench of the Calcutta High Court on April 10, 2024, the CBI established the email address to facilitate the lodging of complaints related to crimes against women and unlawful land acquisitions in Sandeshkhali, situated in the North 24 Parganas district.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the CBI underscored the importance of providing a platform for the local populace to voice their concerns, stating, "In pursuance to the order passed by the division bench of Calcutta High Court on April 10, 2024, the CBI has created a dedicated email in which complaints of persons of Sandeshkhali regarding crimes against women and forcible grabbing of land may be lodged."
Furthermore, the CBI has urged the district magistrate to extensively publicize the email ID within the Sandeshkhali community and issue public notices in vernacular newspapers with broad circulation to ensure maximum outreach and accessibility.
The high court's decision on Wednesday mandated a court-monitored CBI investigation into allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, citing the necessity for an "impartial inquiry" in the pursuit of justice and equity.
