The Haryana Government has agreed to hand over the investigation into the death of schoolteacher Manisha to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision came after strong demands from residents of her village, Dhani Laxman, in Bhiwani.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, in a late-night post after 2 am, said the case would now be investigated by the CBI. He promised that justice would be done and assured that the move was in line with the wishes of Manisha’s family.
Saini said the state government and the police were already carrying out the inquiry with full transparency. Referring to Manisha as “our daughter,” he said he was personally keeping track of the case.
Earlier, villagers had started an indefinite protest, refusing to perform Manisha’s last rites until all those involved were arrested.
On Tuesday, amid public anger over the incident, the Haryana Government suspended mobile internet, bulk SMS and dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours, starting 11 am.
Manisha’s body was found in a field in Bhiwani on August 13. She had been missing since August 11, after she left school saying she was going to inquire about admission at a nursing college.
