Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan is set to visit Jammu today to assess the security situation following a spate of recent terror attacks in the region, officials reported.
General Chauhan’s visit follows a series of deadly attacks that have left 12 people dead, including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Jawan and nine pilgrims.
During his visit, General Chauhan is expected to hold a high-level meeting at the White Knight Corps headquarters in Nagrota, where he will be briefed on the current security dynamics and the measures being implemented to counter the recent wave of violence, said a top official.
In the past two weeks, terrorists have targeted multiple locations across the Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir, raising concerns about the security infrastructure in the region.
In the Reasi district, terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying pilgrims, causing it to plunge into a deep gorge, resulting in the deaths of nine people and injuring dozens more. This attack occurred on June 9.
On June 12, security forces engaged two suspected militants in a fierce gunfight in Kathua district. Both terrorists were neutralised, and a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including assault rifles and grenades, was recovered from their possession. A CRPF Jawan also lost his life in the firefight.
In Doda district, terrorists ambushed a convoy of security personnel, injuring at least five soldiers and a policeman.
General Chauhan’s visit aims to evaluate the situation on the ground and ensure that adequate measures are in place to address the security challenges in the region.
