The Railway Ministry has sanctioned the 25.72-km Ferozepur-Patti railway line project for Punjab. A budget of Rs 764 crore, including Rs 165 crore for land acquisition, has been approved for the project.
Announcing the decision on Wednesday, Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Bittu said the Punjab Chief Secretary has been told to initiate the land acquisition process for the project.
Apart from its strategic importance, the new rail section will provide a direct link between Ferozepur and Amritsar, reducing the distance between the two cities by 98 km. The railway line will also connect the border district directly with ports in Gujarat, which will boost trade in the region.
