Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has hailed a significant boost for Chhattisgarh’s digital infrastructure, confirming that the Centre has sanctioned £385 million (Rs 3,942 crore) under the Amended BharatNet Programme. The funding is earmarked to overhaul connectivity across the state, a move the Chief Minister described on Tuesday night as a "historic step" towards the digital empowerment of rural communities.

The ambitious project aims to link 11,682 gram panchayats through a sophisticated "ring topology-based" network. Unlike the old linear systems, which had the potential of blackouts in the event of the cutting of just one cable, this circular design allows data to be rerouted instantly in the opposite direction. This ensures that digital services are not disrupted, even in the event of local hardware failures—a very necessary upgrade considering the state's rugged and remote terrains.

For the residents of Chhattisgarh, the implications go far beyond simple internet browsing. The Chief Minister emphasised that this network will serve as a "lifeline" for e-governance, allowing for more transparent and efficient public service delivery. It is also expected to be a game-changer for social services, especially in facilitating telemedicine for far-flung villages and strengthening the reach of online education for students who previously struggled with patchy connections.

Extending his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sai said that the investment would integrate rural youth and entrepreneurs into the wider digital economy. "By giving India a secure and self-reliant network, we will be able to create a new wave of innovation in our rural areas. We will make sure that not a single village is left behind in India’s technology revolution."
