Jammu is set to host a major national governance conference this Tuesday, March 3, as the Centre’s Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) joins forces with the Jammu and Kashmir administration. The day-long event is designed to put a spotlight on the most innovative and effective local governance models currently being pioneered across India’s many districts.

The conference will be officially opened by Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Under the banner of "Holistic Development of Districts: Transforming Governance for Viksit Bharat," the gathering aims to show how local administrative tweaks can lead to massive improvements in citizen welfare and public service delivery.

Delegates will hear first-hand accounts from administrators in places as varied as Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, Gomati in Tripura, Koraput in Odisha, and Kargil in Ladakh. A second technical session will broaden the scope to include "Aspirational Blocks" and "Innovative Projects," featuring success stories from Nalbari in Assam and Kupwara in J-K.

Closer to home, a dedicated session will focus on Jammu and Kashmir’s own home-grown successes. This includes the high-tech RFID-enabled management system used by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board to handle the massive influx of pilgrims, alongside the "e-Suvidha" digital initiative from Ramban and administrative breakthroughs in Kulgam.

With over 200 delegates expected — including district collectors, senior policymakers, and domain experts — the summit is being framed as a vital clearing-house for ideas. The ultimate goal, according to the Personnel Ministry, is to find better ways to ensure that flagship government schemes actually reach every intended recipient and that public grievances are handled with genuine efficiency.
