During the virtual closing ceremony of the International Minjar Fair from Shimla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various developmental projects worth Rs 120.44 crore, including the green hydrogen mobility station.

Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, announced the establishment of the state’s first green hydrogen-based mobility station in Chamba. Sukhu laid the foundation stone for the pilot project, estimated to cost Rs 14 crore.

The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the International Minjar Fair, which the Chief Minister presided over virtually due to inclement weather. Sukhu lauded the efforts of the district administration and the people for successfully conducting the fair.

Accompanied by the Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Sukhu highlighted that Chamba is set to become the first district in the state to establish such a project, marking the beginning of a green hydrogen initiative.

The project, which will be constructed by the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) near its Chamera-3 power station, is scheduled for completion by August 2025. It will include a 300-kilowatt grid-connected solar power plant to meet its energy needs.

The plant is expected to produce 20 kg of green hydrogen per day, which will be stored at pressures of 450 bar or higher to fuel a green hydrogen bus. Additionally, a hydrogen dispenser unit will be installed for bus refuelling.

“This groundbreaking project will introduce green hydrogen buses to the region for the first time, significantly raising awareness about green hydrogen in one of India's remote areas,” Sukhu said.

The NHPC has already initiated the tender process to procure a green hydrogen bus for Chamba, ensuring its availability once the pilot project becomes operational. The initiative is expected to generate revenue and create employment opportunities, contributing to the region's economic development.

The current state government aims to transform Himachal Pradesh into a 'Green Energy State' by March 31, 2026, focusing on harnessing green energy to meet demands. The state government is also promoting green industry in alignment with this vision.

Sukhu also announced the upcoming foundation laying for the Chamba heliport and subsidies for flights to the region. Additionally, Rs 4 crore has been allocated for consultancy services for the construction of the Chamba-Chowari-Jot tunnel.

Addressing other developmental needs of the Chamba district, Sukhu mentioned that Rs 165 crore has been allocated for Chamba Medical College. The construction of its building is expected to be completed soon, with all posts of doctors and paramedic staff to be filled accordingly.
