Chandigarh Director General of Police (DGP) Surendra Singh Yadav, a 1997-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been transferred to the Border Security Force (BSF) on deputation, where he will serve as Deputy Inspector General (DIG). Following the directive, Yadav was relieved from his post as Chandigarh’s police chief with immediate effect.

Yadav, who took charge as Chandigarh’s DGP in March last year, has had an extensive career in law enforcement. Promoted to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) grade in 2022, he previously served in Delhi, where he held key positions in the Traffic Police, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), and the Anti-Corruption Branch. His tenure in Chandigarh, though brief, saw significant administrative changes within the police department.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed 2004-batch IPS officer Raj Kumar Singh as the new DGP of Chandigarh. Singh will assume charge immediately and continue in the role until further orders are issued.

Notably, Yadav’s tenure as Chandigarh’s top cop has been among the shortest in the city’s history. After Kiran Bedi, who was transferred just 44 days into her tenure, Yadav’s stint lasted only one year and 14 days.

His tenure witnessed a major reshuffle within the police department, with the transfer of over 2,000 personnel, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, head constables, and constables. This restructuring is considered one of the most significant in the history of Chandigarh’s police force.
