IndiGo has driven a major expansion drive at the newly operational Navi Mumbai International Airport, marking this occasion with the launch of over 30 new routes. At its heart is a new direct service to Chandigarh every day, launching this Sunday. The carrier plans to expand its operations in stages until April 23, eventually operating more than 400 flights a week from this new hub.
The service to Chandigarh is part of the initial wave of flights, with departures from Navi Mumbai scheduled for 4:50 pm and return legs leaving Chandigarh at 7:35 pm. By establishing these point-to-point links, the carrier hopes to bypass the heavy congestion often found at major metro hubs. The strategy extends to a diverse range of cities which includes Kolkata, Srinagar, Varanasi, and Patna, as well as several tier-II and tier-III locations such as Jharsuguda and Durgapur.
Gujarat has also seen a notable boost in connectivity. A twice-daily ATR service between Bhavnagar and Navi Mumbai was inaugurated on Sunday, aimed at catering to the region’s robust industrial and business travel sectors. This will be further bolstered on April 23 when direct flights to Jamnagar are introduced. Once these routes are fully operational, IndiGo will serve six cities across Gujarat with a total of more than 1,400 weekly flights connecting the state to the rest of the country.
The phased expansion continues over the coming days, with services to Bareilly, Kannur, and Jammu set to begin on March 30 and 31. Additional frequencies on existing routes will also be added in early April, building up to the launch of the Jamnagar service. This is a very aggressive capacity build and underlines the airline's commitment to Navi Mumbai as a foundation of their domestic network as they move into full-scale operations.
