Ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15, Chandigarh Police has stepped up security preparations. Senior police officials from Chandigarh and neighbouring districts met to review the law and order situation and strengthen coordination between different states.

 

The meeting was chaired by Chandigarh DGP Sagar Preet Hooda at the Police Headquarters in Sector 9. Senior officers from Panchkula, Mohali, Ropar and Solan joined Chandigarh Police officials to discuss security challenges and plan joint measures for the national event.

 

One of the major decisions taken during the meeting was the setting up of joint border checkpoints between Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. The move aims to improve monitoring and prevent the movement of suspicious or anti-social elements. Police will also increase inspections at hotels, guest houses and sarais, while tenant and domestic help verification drives will be carried out more rigorously.

 

Officials agreed to share intelligence in real time regarding protests, demonstrations and activities of various groups. Information related to stolen vehicles, wanted criminals and other offenders will also be exchanged quickly to support timely action.

 

The police departments decided to keep a close watch on the activities of gangsters and terror suspects. Intelligence inputs related to organised crime and terrorism will be shared regularly among the participating states to strengthen security and preventive efforts.

 

To improve long-term coordination, it was also decided that similar meetings would be held regularly. These interactions will help police forces review security concerns, improve cooperation and exchange useful information and best practices.

 

Several senior police officers attended the meeting, including ADGP Saurabh Singh, ADGP Sanjay Kumar, IGP Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, Panchkula Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain, DIG Nanak Singh, Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, Ropar SSP Maninder Singh, Panchkula DCP Aditi Singh and Solan SP Tirumalaraju SD Varma, among others.
