Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav has announced that a comprehensive civil defense mock drill will be conducted across the city on Tuesday. The exercise aims to enhance public preparedness and evaluate emergency response mechanisms, with a particular focus on a citywide blackout drill.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, the mock drill will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will involve mock emergency activities at two different locations in the city, scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm. The second phase will be the blackout drill, which is set to start at 7:30 pm.
During the blackout, a siren will be sounded for ten minutes. Citizens are requested to participate by switching off all lights in their homes, workplaces, and public spaces for the duration of the siren. In addition, people driving on roads at the time are advised to safely park their vehicles and turn off their headlights while the drill is in progress.
Deputy Commissioner Yadav stressed that this is strictly a preparedness exercise and not a real emergency. He urged residents not to panic or give in to false information circulating on social media, particularly regarding the need to store essentials like food, petrol, or diesel.

The administration reiterated the importance of such exercises in building community resilience and thanked residents in advance for their participation and understanding.

Do not panic if you hear air raid sirens, obey instructions from authorities, gather in the safe zone immediately.
During blackout:
- Stay indoors and away from windows. If you are driving, then park your vehicle and turn off the lights.
- Turn off all indoor and outdoor lights during alerts.
