Chandigarh toy train accident kills 11-year-old

According to police sources, Jatinder Pal Singh, along with his wife, son Shahbaz, and his cousin’s family, had travelled to Chandigarh for a day out.

Tragedy struck at Elante Mall in Chandigarh on Saturday night when an 11-year-old boy from Nawanshahr, Punjab, died from head injuries sustained after falling from a toy train.

 

The victim, Shahbaz Singh, was enjoying an outing with his family when the incident occurred.

 

The Chandigarh Police have taken swift action, booking both the toy train driver and the mall management.

 

Inspector Jaspal Singh Bhullar, SHO of Industrial Area police station, confirmed that an FIR has been registered and the toy train driver, Saurav, has been arrested.

According to police sources, Jatinder Pal Singh, along with his wife, son Shahbaz, and his cousin’s family, had travelled to Chandigarh for a day out.

 

Around 9:30 pm, Shahbaz and his cousin took a ride on the toy train.

 

Seated in the last compartment, Shahbaz was critically injured when the compartment allegedly overturned, causing him to fall.  His cousin escaped unhurt.

 

Shahbaz’s family immediately rushed him to Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh Sector 32.

 

Despite the medical team's efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The body was later handed over to his parents after an autopsy.

 

In response to the incident, Nexus Elante Mall issued a statement, “We were informed about the unfortunate incident involving one of the service providers working on our premises on the night of June 22, 2024. Our emergency response team rushed the victim to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, and the local police were informed immediately. We are fully cooperating with the authorities and deeply sympathise with the family.”
