Chandigarh University (CU), recognised as India’s top private university, has severed all academic ties with 23 universities in Turkey and Azerbaijan following their support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor—India’s anti-terror offensive against cross-border threats.

The move was announced by S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chancellor of Chandigarh University, who stressed that national interests take precedence over international collaborations.

“No alliance with those who support Pakistan, a known sponsor of terrorism, is acceptable. When it comes to India’s integrity and sovereignty, we will not compromise,” said Sandhu.

The decision entails the immediate termination of all student and faculty exchange programs, joint research initiatives, dual degree programs, and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with universities from Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Sandhu noted that the action aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s firm stance against terrorism and called on all Indian institutions to stand united in support of the nation during critical times.

“As our soldiers risk their lives defending the nation, we too must contribute. Our stance is clear—we will not associate with any institution that undermines India’s sovereignty,” he stated.

He further advised Indian students to reconsider studying in countries like Turkey and Azerbaijan and instead choose destinations that share India’s values and global perspective.
