Chaos broke out at the Bihar headquarters of the Congress party shortly after Rahul Gandhi concluded his visit and left the premises following a meeting with state office bearers.
Gandhi had arrived at the historic Sadaqat Ashram on Monday afternoon as part of his day-long tour of the state, during which he also participated in a march in Begusarai and attended a symposium in Patna.
During his brief visit to the party office, he was greeted by enthusiastic Congress workers chanting "dekho dekho sher aaya" — a phrase that translates to "look, here comes the lion" — a nod to Gandhi’s frequent reference to his dedicated supporters as ‘babbar sher’ for their opposition to the BJP at both national and state levels.
Gandhi spent approximately thirty minutes at the ashram. However, shortly after his departure, an unexpected disruption unfolded when a young man holding a pamphlet expressing support for the Wakf Bill caught the attention of the media.
Upon being questioned, the man identified himself as Ram Babu Yadav, a resident of Bhojpur district. It soon became evident to Congress workers that Yadav was not affiliated with the party, prompting an outcry among the cadres.
Allegations flew that he was a BJP agent sent to the venue for money, leading to him being forcibly escorted out by Congress workers.
When Rajya Sabha MP and former state Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh was confronted about the incident, he avoided directly addressing the matter and said he was in a hurry to catch a flight.
As he made his way to his vehicle, Singh was momentarily delayed by another commotion at the venue, where two Congress supporters were seen exchanging blows. The confrontation intensified until Singh intervened by slapping one of the individuals before leaving in his car.
After the altercation, one of the individuals involved told reporters that he had been a lifelong Congress supporter and was currently a Panchayat member, claiming the person who fought with him was an ex-MLA working as a BJP agent.
The episode highlighted the internal tensions and security lapses within the party, despite the enthusiasm surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s visit.
