The second phase of Uttarakhand’s annual Char Dham Yatra is drawing a large number of devotees. Registrations have crossed 50 lakh, while nearly 45 lakh pilgrims have visited the four shrines so far.
Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Chairman Hemant Dwivedi said Kedarnath and Badrinath have received particularly high footfall. The two shrines have together earned more than Rs 74.5 crore in revenue, with Kedarnath accounting for around Rs 37 crore.
Dwivedi said around 19.34 lakh pilgrims have registered for Kedarnath and nearly 17.79 lakh for Badrinath. Overall, about 50 lakh people have registered for the four Dhams, with 30.62 lakh registrations recorded for Kedarnath and Badrinath. Around 44-45 lakh devotees have actually visited the four shrines so far.
He said the arrangements for the pilgrimage are continuing smoothly despite the seasonal rains. The authorities are working to ensure that pilgrims can travel safely and without major disruptions.
Dwivedi said devotees continue to show strong interest in visiting Kedarnath during the second phase of the yatra. So far, 30,62,228 pilgrims have visited Kedarnath and Badrinath. Of these, 16,12,112 visited Kedarnath, while 14,50,116 reached Badrinath. The pilgrimage has continued steadily despite the monsoon.
The Char Dham Yatra covers four major pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand — Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.
Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a virtual meeting with all District Magistrates. He reviewed the monsoon situation, Char Dham and Kanwar Yatras, disaster preparedness, the ‘Jan-Jan Ki Sarkar, Jan-Jan Ke Dwar’ programme, verification drives and road repairs.
Dhami asked the District Magistrates to remain extra cautious during the monsoon and keep disaster management teams ready to respond to any emergency. He also directed officials to remain available and keep their phones switched on at all times. He stressed that all necessary arrangements should be in place to handle emergencies and ensure that the public and pilgrims do not face unnecessary difficulties.
