Uttarakhand Police has intensified security arrangements in Rudraprayag to ensure the safety of devotees arriving in large numbers for prayers at the Kedarnath Temple.
Acting on the directions of the Superintendent of Police, extensive security steps have been implemented along the Char Dham Yatra route leading to the temple premises. Authorities have increased surveillance and deployment at key locations to ensure the safety of devotees.
Joint anti-sabotage checks are being conducted by the Bomb Disposal Squad along with local police teams at sensitive points near the shrine. Advanced metal detectors and modern equipment are being used to screen entry gates, resting areas and pilgrims’ belongings. CCTV cameras and drones are monitoring crowded areas to enable quick action in case of any suspicious activity.
Police officials have urged pilgrims to cooperate with security personnel and strictly follow safety guidelines so that the Kedarnath Yatra proceeds smoothly and without disruption.
Meanwhile, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey has advised devotees and tourists to plan their travel carefully after the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Uttarkashi and Tehri Garhwal districts.
He appealed to pilgrims to remain extra cautious while travelling on May 12 and 13 due to sensitive weather conditions. He said travelling after improvement in weather would be safer and more convenient. Pilgrims were also requested to follow all instructions issued by local authorities during the journey.
The Commissioner said the state government is fully committed to ensuring a safe, smooth and well-organised Char Dham Yatra. All concerned departments have been advised to maintain necessary arrangements and preparedness. He expressed confidence that with public cooperation, the pilgrimage will continue successfully.
The IMD has warned of intense spells of rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms at isolated places in Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi districts under the orange alert.
The Char Dham Yatra, one of India’s most important religious pilgrimages, began on April 19 with rituals across various shrines. The annual Kedarnath Yatra started with the ceremonial departure of the Panchmukhi palanquin of Lord Kedarnath from its winter seat at Omkareshwar Temple.
