Chennai is set to experience a predominantly cloudy and rainy period over the coming days, with intermittent light showers expected on most days throughout the week. Although the overall weather pattern is likely to remain stable, two specific days have been highlighted with stronger alerts, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The week is expected to begin with partly cloudy skies and the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures are forecasted to rise slightly, reaching 31–32 degrees Celsius on Monday. From Tuesday through Friday, Chennai will see generally cloudy skies accompanied by light rainfall. No major warnings have been issued for this period, and conditions are predicted to remain relatively calm despite the persistent cloud cover.
However, toward the end of the week, the weather is likely to turn unstable once again. Partly cloudy skies are anticipated, along with the possibility of rain, thunderstorms, or even dust storms, the IMD stated. A fresh warning has been issued specifically for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning on Saturday.
In recent observations, Chennai recorded minimum temperatures slightly above normal, with a rise ranging from 1.6 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius. This trend of warmer nights has also been noted in several other districts across Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Salem, Thirupattur, and Tiruvallur.
Across the state, Erode and Madurai airports registered the highest daytime temperature in Tamil Nadu at 32 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Karur Paramathi recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains, dropping to 20 degrees Celsius.
Heavy Rainfall Warning for Tamil Nadu
Intense rainfall activity is expected over the southern and delta regions of Tamil Nadu. The IMD’s daily weather bulletin noted that heavy rain is likely at isolated locations in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai districts, as well as in the Karaikal area.
