The Chhattisgarh government has announced a significant salary increase for doctors and faculty at state-run medical colleges, a move described as “historic” by officials.
Effective from September 1, the pay hike covers professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and senior residents and demonstrators (post-graduate) across the state.
Professors in scheduled areas will see their salaries rise from Rs 1.9 lakh to Rs 2.25 lakh, while those in non-scheduled areas will receive an increase from Rs 1.55 lakh to Rs 1.9 lakh.
Associate professors will now earn Rs 1.85 lakh in scheduled areas, up from Rs 1.55 lakh, and Rs 1.55 lakh in non-scheduled areas, an increase from Rs 1.35 lakh.
Assistant professors will see their salaries climb to Rs 1.25 lakh in scheduled areas from Rs 90,000, and Rs 1 lakh in non-scheduled areas, up from Rs 90,000.
Senior residents and demonstrators (PG) will benefit from a pay rise to Rs 95,000 per month in scheduled areas, up from Rs 65,000, and Rs 75,000 in non-scheduled areas, an increase from Rs 65,000.
Contract-based doctors will receive a salary hike of approximately 46 per cent in scheduled areas and 23 per cent in non-scheduled areas.
Chhattisgarh Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal assured that this decision will not affect the expansion of medical facilities in the state.
“The future of those studying in government medical colleges has the right to get quality teachers and education, and the decision of salary hike clearly shows the intention of the state government to work in the health sector,” Jaiswal said.
