The Chhattisgarh Assembly on Friday unanimously passed the Chhattisgarh Staff Selection Board Bill, 2026 to establish a new body for conducting recruitment examinations to Class III and IV posts across state departments.
The legislation provides for the creation of a staff selection board aimed at streamlining and standardising the recruitment process. With its enactment, the existing Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board (CPEB) will be merged into the new entity.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the move would simplify procedures and ensure transparency in recruitment, addressing concerns raised by candidates in recent years.
“Currently, vacancies are released separately by different departments, forcing candidates to apply separately for each post. Each department follows a different selection process, and conducting separate examinations every time puts immense pressure on recruitment agencies. The proposed board would address these challenges by ensuring a more streamlined and transparent system,” he said.
Sai also referred to alleged irregularities in past recruitment processes, including the controversy surrounding the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC), stating that the probe has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The Chief Minister said a single advertisement could be issued for posts requiring similar qualifications, ensuring uniformity and efficiency. He added that the board would introduce an annual examination calendar, allowing candidates to prepare in a structured manner.
“Youth are the foundation of building ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Viksit Chhattisgarh’. We will provide opportunities for young people to fulfil their dreams in a transparent environment. This Bill is about restoring the trust that got eroded under the previous government. Our government follows a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption,” he said.
The board will conduct recruitment through examinations, interviews, skill tests and other methods, and may also oversee entrance tests for professional courses as notified by the state government.
It will be headed by a chairperson not below the rank of principal secretary, with up to three members of joint secretary rank. A secretary of at least deputy secretary rank will serve as the chief administrative officer, supported by an examination controller.
The board will also have powers to act against candidates using unfair means or disrupting examinations.
Officials said the new body is expected to entail an annual recurring expenditure of around Rs 30 crore.
The Assembly was later adjourned sine die after completing its business.
