A total of 99 children have been rescued from child labour in Punjab during statewide raids, the labour ministry said on Wednesday. The raids were part of the Child Labour Eradication Week campaign launched by Punjab's Labour Ministry, which is being conducted from June 11 to June 21, 2024.
District-level teams, consisting of officials from various departments, conducted raids on industrial units and workplaces in Ludhiana and Bathinda.
In Ludhiana, the raids led to the rescue of 95 child labourers from several industrial units, namely - Neeraj Jain Hojri, Front Line, AS Narang Hosiery Complex, Leela Garment, and RP Sehgal Hosiery Complex.
Meanwhile, in Bathinda, 4 child labourers were rescued from Hotel Rohit, Pappu Dhaba, and Balaji Pagari House.
To eradicate child labour from the state, Anmol Gagan Maan, Punjab's Labour Minister had issued guidelines for the officials to work tirelessly, ensuring stringent actions against violators.
