A private helicopter carrying devotees from Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing on Wednesday in the Chamba-Arakot area of Tehri district due to a technical fault, officials said. All seven people on board are safe.
Dhanaulti tehsildar Mohammad Shadab said the helicopter had seven occupants, including the pilot. He confirmed that all passengers and crew members are safe after the incident.
Officials said all the devotees belong to a single family from Punjabi Bagh in Delhi, who were returning after visiting Badrinath Dham. As per reports, a technical problem developed in the helicopter operated by Trans Bharat Aviation while it was flying over the Chamba-Arakot area at about 8.30 am.
Following the fault, the helicopter made an emergency landing in a field in the Nawagaon area of the Satyo-Saklana region in Tehri.
During the landing, the rear portion of the helicopter came in contact with a high-tension power line and suffered damage.
The helicopter was flying from Badrinath Dham towards Dehradun when the incident occurred. The tehsildar said police and administrative teams immediately reached the spot after the landing and carried out a rescue operation. He added that a detailed inquiry is underway to find the exact cause of the incident. The pilot has been identified as Anupama Chaudhary, a resident of Meerut.
Local Congress leader and former district panchayat member Akhilesh Uniyal expressed concern over the incident. He said the emergency landing could have caused serious harm to people working in nearby fields. He also urged the Uttarakhand government to ensure strict technical checks of all helicopters used for the Char Dham Yatra before every flight.
