Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been given the authority to investigate the charges of sexual assault levied against Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
An FIR was registered on Thursday night against Yediyurappa under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the former CM based on a complaint from a woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her 17-year-old daughter, last month.
The complainant said the alleged incident took place when they both went to see the former CM seeking help in a police case.
The veteran leader told the media that he would deal with the complaint legally. The woman and daughter visited his house a few times. When they explained their grievance, he called the police commissioner and asked him to look into the matter. He even gave them money when they shared their distress.
“I could never expect this from them,” he said.
In response to the development, the Congress, however, has refused of any political vendetta. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar did not comment on the complaint. However, Home Minister G Parameshwara said “let the investigation take place. The government does not have anything else to day. The police will take appropriate action.”
